Capturing the concept of ‘wearable art’, Cotton Candy Corsage was launched in 2006 with the vision of creating exciting and unique fashion accessories, specialising in exquisite corsage-brooches, over-sized fabric necklaces and stunning fascinators, hairbands and combs.Described as ‘a creative beatnik with a magpies eye for the sparkling and the sumptuous’, owner Rebecca Holland has been selling her handcrafted accessories via on-line stores and her experimentation with textures, pattern, style and shape have been earning her a positive reputation in the on-line community as a designer to watch.
Clearly that has been filtering through the fashion industry, as Cotton Candy Corsage continue to attract an increasing number of stockists from around the world; ranging from funky, tourist-aimed craft stores to the most exclusive of boutiques. Using only the finest and most fashionable fabrics and colour combinations in her designs, it’s is easy to see why Cotton Candy Corsage were invited to produce Scottish fabric corsages for the goody bags at the 2008 London Fashion Show - the type of invite normally reserved for the likes of Stella McCartney or Armani.
After graduating with a first class honours degree in Fashion Design Management from the Scottish College of Textiles, Rebecca considered pursuing a career in the fashion press but soon realised that her true passion rested in the design and creation of beautiful pieces of ‘wearable art’.
Inspired by the number of fashion possibilities that the corsage can offer, she set about creating her own style. Inspired by nature, her colour palettes and inventive composition combine with delicate hand beading, stitching and finishing to produce totally unique pieces.
As her collections and admirers develop, Cotton Candy Corsage is introducing new ranges of accessories; such as over-sized necklaces of wooden beads covered in the most sumptuous of fabrics gathered from around the world, including the famous and highly fashionable Liberty print. Her range has also extended in the hair accessories market where Rebecca has created collections of decorated headbands, stunning slides and eye catching fascinators.
Each piece has been individually designed by Rebecca with the aim of making the wearer feel special. Her trimmings, such as the buttons and brooches, have all been hand sourced and many are vintage; mixing the old with the new to create something stunning. Her bespoke service enables the customer to input their own ideas (should they wish) and her growing network of suppliers ensures that no matter where in the world her product is bought, the pieces are totally unique.
After a blistering start to 2008, it is becoming clear that this is the year of the corsage. Trend setters on both sides of the Atlantic have been seen wearing beautiful corsages on the red carpet. It appears that the timing couldn’t be better for Cotton Candy Corsage to be viewed as the accessory designer of choice.
