This debut collaboration between the Glasgow Craft Mafia and the Creative Entrepreneurs Club (CEC) at The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture, Design and The City, was a storming success, taking place on Saturday 24th May 2008, 10.30am - 5pm.
Bringing the crème of the city’s creative crop together for the first time, the vision of ‘Made In The Shade’ was to showcase young design talent, encourage customers to relish in the exclusivity of the handmade one-off and promote the local, independent businesses who are working hard to carve out creative identities amidst a mountain of mass-produced and carbon-negative products.
On the day, customers were transported to a land of 1950s housewives in hand-made aprons as they were greeted on Buchanan Street with scrumptious chocolate nibbles handmade by the Cake Goddess! Once inside, they were bedazzled by over forty stallholders selling products crafted with love, and the sounds of rock’n’roll rebels, honkytonkers and vintage drag on the decks. Very special goody bags containing handmade treats from Glasgow Craft Mafia members and a special gift from The Lighthouse shop, ‘Form’ were presented to early birds - you were a very lucky tweeter if you managed to secure one of these!
